Description
Many members of the Lupinus family or lupins / lupines can be found in South America. One particular species, Lupinus mutabilis, has been an important crop in the Andes of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia for thousands of years due to the high protein content of its seeds (which are called tarwi / tarhui). The orange plant in the background is Caiophora / Cajophora horrida, the horrida part of the name referes to the nasty stinging sensation the hairs on the leaves give you when touched....!

Lupines are beautiful in any language! I've seen them in the Andes but never got a shot like this.
