Description
Cloud formations above Los Monjes de la Pacana ("Pacana Monks"), a series of spectacular rock formations at an altitude of around 4300m / 14,100ft in the high desert plains of the Puna de Atacama in northern Chile. They get their name as they are located near the Pacana Hills that cross the desert and some of the formations look like monks. The rocks, which are also called are also known as the Moais de Tara, are of volcanic origin and have been sculpted over time by the strong winds that blow across this harsh yet beautiful landscape. The hill in the background is Cerro Negro.
