Description
The 5910m / 19,390ft Miniques volcano towers above the high altitude desert grasslands of the Puna de Atacama in northern Chile. The volcano has 3 craters and is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve not far from San Pedro de Atacama. This view is from the southwest. The sparse tufts of yellow ichu grass are typical of what is known as the desert puna / puna desiertica ecoregion; much of the Puna de Atacama has no vegetation at all.
