Description
Mt Illampu (6368m / 20,890ft) is the 4th highest in Bolivia and the northernmost major peak the Cordillera Real range. There are several myths and legends about the peak, the dwelling place of many Andean gods and one of the hardest climbs in Bolivia; even its normal route is a tough and serious challenge. It was first climbed in June 1928 via the SW ridge by a German / Austrian team. The lower peak in the middle of the glacier to the left is Pico del Norte (6070m / 19,915ft), the smaller peak in front and to the right of Illampu is Pico Schulze (5943m / 19,495ft).
