Description
The Salar de Uyuni in south west Bolivia is the world's largest salt flat, covering 10,582 square km / 4,086 square miles at an altitude of 3656m / 12,000ft. It often floods (to a depth of only a few cm) during the rainy season which turns the surface into a huge mirror reflecting the skies. This can also cause more unusual atmospheric effects and mirages such as hills and distant mountains appearing to float on the horizon.
