Description
The Cuernos (or "Horns" del Paine) are one of the most famous sights in Chile's spectacular Torres del Paine National Park. The Cuernos are also a superb example of a granite intrusion (the pale rock) pushing up sedimentary rock layers (the black layer on the top of the peak is composed of sedimentary shales). This image shows the Cuerno Norte / North Horn (right, 2400m / 7,875ft) and behind it the peaks known as La Hoja ( "Leaf") and Espada ("Sword") on a stormy afternoon.
