Description
Abstract patterns created by ripples and totora reeds (Schoenoplectus californicus ssp. tatora) on Lake Titicaca at sunset. Totora reeds are a type of bulrush sedge that has long been used by people living by the lake for building boats, thatching roofs, fodder for livestock and even for building floating islands and houses to live on (the Uros Islands, Peru). Lake Titicaca is shared by Peru and Bolivia, covers approx 8,400 square km and at 3800m /12,500ft above sea level is said to be the world's highest navigable lake, it is also the 14th largest by volume.
