Description
A view of the Elizabeth Tower, usually known as Big Ben, which houses the world famous Great Clock of Westminster. The famous London Eye / Millennium Wheel ferris wheel is in the background. The tower is part of the Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament. Big Ben is actually the nickname of the largest bell (there are 5 in total) inside the tower. The tower was designed by Augustus Pugin in the Gothic Revival style and completed in 1859. It is 96m / 316ft tall, 334 steps climb up inside from ground level to the belfry. The exterior is clad with sand-coloured Anston limestone bricks from South Yorkshire, which glow with a beautiful golden colour in the right light.
