Description
Common or English bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) contrast beautifully with the white trunks of silver birch (Betula pendula) trees in a typical Weald of Kent woodland in southeast England. This beautiful flower is native to north western Europe and the UK, and is the species that produces the famous blue carpets known as "bluebell woods" in early spring. It is an indicator species for ancient woodlands and is a protected species in the UK.
