Description
A rare calm, clear day over the fjords on Chile's rugged Pataganian coast at Puerto Natales. Last Hope Sound / Seno Ultima Esperanza was named by the Spanish navigator Juan Ladrillero in 1557 because he felt it was his last chance to reach the Strait of Magellan and a route west to the Pacific. Graceful black necked swans (Cygnus melancoryphus) are often seen in the area. They are the largest native species of wildfowl in South America and found on both fresh and saltwater in the southern part of the continent.
