Description
Detail of the wall of a bocce court in the Little Italy neighborhood, Baltimore. The wooden block in the colors of the Italian flag with holes and numbers is used to keep the score. Bocce is a ball sport belonging to the boules family that is very popular in Italy and other Adriatic countries. It is closely related to the British bowls and French petanque, all of which developed from games played during the time of the Roman Empire. Italian immigrants brought the game to the USA, Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood is still mostly populated by the descendants of Italian-American immigrants and is known for its strong Italian-American heritage.
