Description
A detail of the impressive main entrance facade of Caminha's Igreja Matriz / parish church. The church dates from the 15th century and was built in the Gothic style with notable Manueline influences, which especially include the unusual stone carvings around and above the main door. Caminha, in the far north of Portugal, has a long history; the Romans had a military settlement here and in the 13th century King Afonso III built a new castle and fortifications around what at the time was a fishing village.
