Artist's Description
The Chilean flag flying on the tower of the Old Customs House in the port city of Iquique in the north of Chile. In the late 19th century Iquique was one of the most important ports in South America, thanks to the nitrate mining boom in the nearby Atacama Desert. It is still a major port, a holiday resort and capital of Region I de Tarapaca. The Old Customs House was built in 1871, the blue tower in the background is part of the cathedral.
