Description
A view of the famous Playa de Rodas beach on the Cies Islands, which lie in the Atlantic Ocean at the entrance to the Ria de Vigo off the coast of Galicia in northwest Spain. There are 3 main islands in the archipelago, this beautiful beach connects the northern island (Illa de Monteagudo) to the middle one (Illa de Faro or Montefaro). There is also a small rocky causeway out of shot to the left which is under water at high tide, allowing water to enter the lagoon bottom left. As well as beaches the islands are noted for their rugged scenery (especially on the western ocean side) and rich maritime wildlife. They were made a Nature Reserve in 1980 and were included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park (Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia) when it was created in 2002.
