Description
A view of Cusco's main Plaza de Armas central square and the Compania de Jesus / Society of Jesus church. It was built by the Jesuits between 1576 and 1668 on the site of the palace of the Inca Huayna Capac, much of the church had to be rebuilt after an earthquake in 1650. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of the Spanish colonial baroque architecture in the Americas. The square sits over the site of the original and much larger Inca square which was known as Huacaypata.
