Description
A young couple dancing the contradanza dance in front of the Sanctuary of the Lord of Qoyllur Riti in the high Andes in Peru's Cusco region. The Qoyllur Riti (which means Snow Star in the Quechua language) festival is one of the largest in Peru and was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List in 2011. During the event tens of thousands of people and dance groups make a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary, a church located in a valley at 4700m / approx 15,500ft at the foot of the sacred Sinak'ara mountain.
