Description
A protester dressed as a cowboy on hunger strike at the Brian Haw peace camp / Parliament Square Peace Campaign in Parliament Square opposite the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London. The campaign was started by the activist Brian Haw on 2nd June 2001 in response to the United Nations economic sanctions imposed on Iraq. The protests and camp expanded to become a prominent part of the anti-war movement against UK and USA foreign policies in particularly Iraq and Afghanistan. Brian Haw himself lived in the camp for nearly 10 years, surviving several court actions to have him and the camp removed, before he died from cancer in June 2011. The camp was finally removed in 2013.
