Description
A Bilboats tourist cruise boat passes Bilbao's famous spider sculpture. The sculpture (called "Maman", the French for Mummy or Mother, in Spanish "Mama") was made in 1999 by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The original, made of steel is in the Tate Modern in London. 6 bronze copies are on permanent display elsewhere; Bilbao's is one of these and located on the bank of the Ria de Bilbao next to the famous Guggenheim Museum The large red roofed building in the background is a home for the elderly that belongs to the Catholic Instituto Siervas de Jesus de la Caridad organisation.
