Description
Spectacular late afternoon stormy skies in Lauca National Park in the far north of Chile. The Park is also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981. The lighting and clouds on this particular afternoon was magnificent, some of the finest I've enjoyed in the high altiplano! The peak is Quisi Quisini (often written K'isi K'isini), a 5,536m / 18,163 ft high extinct volcano on the Bolivia border. Chungara (4,517m / 14,820ft) is one of the highest lakes in South America, the wetlands / bofedales on its shores supports a large variety of waterbirds.
