Close up of the flower of an Echinopsis atacamensis cactus growing on Incahuasi Island in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. They grow at only approx 1cm a year in the cold dry climate of the high Andean altiplano and the tallest are often more than 10m high and 1000 years old. This is the pasacana subspecies which are found in Bolivia and northern Argentina.
