Description
A man carries a drum past one of the entrances to Santa Ana church in Cusco, Peru. He was on the way to join a brass band waiting in the square to accompany a small festival procession. Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire and the stones at the base of the wall are from the Inca period. The Spanish built many of their houses and churches over the foundations of the original Inca buildings, or used stones from them for construction as is the case here (the Incas didn't use mortar but fitted their stone blocks together perfectly without it).
