Description
Dark rainy season storm clouds loom over the Monument to the Founders of City of Cusco in Plaza Limacpampa on the edge of Cusco's historic centre. The 2 figures on the monument are the first Inca Manco Capac and his wife (and older sister) Mama Ocllo / Uqllu. There are several versions of the legends describing the foundation of Cusco and the Inca Empire, though all of them have a common theme that the first Inca rulers were descended from Inti the Sun God and sent to improve the living conditions of the people and teach them to worship Inti. After wandering through the Andes the golden rod / spear Inti had given them sunk into the ground in the valley where Cusco is now located, the divine sign that they had reached the correct location to begin their mission.
