Description
A black and white shot of the Forte do Cao castle on the rocky shore at Gelfa in northern Portugal. The castle is one of many that were built along the northern coast of Portugal during the mid-17th century. The Portuguese revolution of 1640 led to Portuguese Restoration War between Portugal and Spain and also involved other European powers. The War ended with the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668, which brought a formal end to the Iberian Union and led to the restoration of Portuguese independence.
