Description
One of the geysers in the El Tatio geyser field, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the San Pedro de Atacama area of northern Chile. The colors at the base of the geyser are algae / bacteria growing on geyserite / sinter mineral deposits. The site is one of the world's highest geyser fields at an altitude of 4320m / 14,170ft and has over 80 active geysers (as well as other volcanic features and landforms), making it the 3rd largest geyser field in the world and the largest in the southern hemisphere.
