Description
A giant tree fern and cloud forest vegetation on a hillside near Coroico in Bolivia's subtropical Yungas region. Tree ferns are common in tropical and subtropical South America. Bolivia's Yungas region lies on the eastern slopes of the Andes where the mountains drop steeply to the Amazon basin. The abrupt changes in altitude and climate make these areas among the most biodiverse on the planet, with many distinct forest ecoregions. In the background is the distinctive flat-topped peak of Mt Mururata (5868m / 19,250ft). On a clear day when you can see the snowy peaks the dramatic changes in altitude and climates are obvious.
