Description
Early morning sunlight lights up the fronds of a giant tree fern and surrounding cloud forest vegetation. Tree ferns are common in tropical and subtropical South America. This shot was taken in Cotapata National Park in Bolivia; such vegetation is typical of Bolivia's subtropical Yungas region, where the eastern slopes of the Andes mountain range drop steeply to the Amazon basin. The abrupt changes in altitude and climate make these areas among the most biodiverse on the planet, with many distinct forest ecoregions. Cotapata is one of several Parks in Bolivia that have Andean cloud forests within their boundaries.
