Description
The spines of giant Echinopsis atacamensis (pasacana subspecies) cacti on Incahuasi Island in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni in south west Bolivia form a glowing fringe in the setting sun. The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, covering 10,582 square km / 4,086 square miles. These cacti (which are found in Bolivia and northern Argentina) grow at only approx 1cm a year in the cold dry climate of the high Andean altiplano, the tallest are over 10m high and 1000 years old....
