Description
The Cordillera Apolobamba is a remote and relatively little visited Andean mountain range that lies in both Bolivia and Peru to the north of Lake Titicaca. Many of its peaks are well over 5000m and large parts of the range have yet to be properly surveyed and mapped. Most of the Bolivian part of the range is protected as the Apolobamba Integrated Management Natural Area. The southern part of the range is the traditional home of the Kallawaya, a group of traditional healers whose culture can be traced back to before the Incas and is recognised by UNESCO.
