Description
The Moche or Mochica were a powerful civilisation that ruled in the coastal deserts of northern Peru from approx 100AD to 800AD. They are noted for their sophisticated ceramics, gold and metalwork and advanced irrigation systems. This figure is part of the impressive restored murals in the Huaca de la Luna site near Trujillo. The face is of the main Mochica deity Ai Apaec, who is also known as The Decapitator as he appears to have been honoured by rituals involving human sacrifices.....
