Description
A view of Lake Huana Kota in Sajama National Park in the Bolivian altiplano after a winter snowfall. These snowfalls, caused by cold fronts coming up from the south, transform the altiplano steppes into a harsh yet strangely beautiful landscapes, ideal for minimalist and black and white images. Heavy falls can cut remote areas off for days or more and be a real hardship for the local people and their livestock, which struggle to find grazing under the snow. They are also an important source of water, winter is normally the dry season and shallow lakes like this one can dry out after a few months without any sort of precipitation.
