Description
The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg was founded in 1826 under the theologian and professor Samuel Simon Schmucker. Originally a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), it was the oldest continuing Lutheran college in the USA until it was merged on July 1 2017 with the nearby and former rival Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia to form the United Lutheran Seminary. Parts of it were used as a field hospital during the famous Civil War battle in 1863. The chapel was built in 1942.
