Description
The statue of the Marquis de Lafayette (full name Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier) in Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore. The Marquis was a French aristocrat and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War and also the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. . He was also a close friend of George Washington and helped write the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen with Thomas Jefferson. The building on the right is the Peabody Institute and houses the Peabody Library.
