Description
One of a large collection of images I've taken over the years of Bolivia's Todos Santos / All Saints / Day of the Dead celebrations on November 1st and 2nd. These painted plaster faces (called caretas or caretitas) are used for the traditional bread figures called tantawawas (literally "bread babies") which are made for the occasion and are believed to represent the souls of the dead. Large numbers are sold in markets as the festival approaches.
