Description
The Milky Way rises above the belfry of Parinacota village church (which dates from the 17th century) in Lauca National Park in the far north of Chile. These quaint churches are typical of the high altiplano regions of northern Chile and western Bolivia. Research has shown many of them were built on sites sacred to the indigenous people to encourage them to convert to Catholicism. The Park is also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981.

What wonderful light and mood, James. Voted in contest.lf
James Brunker replied:
Thank you Barbie! If I remember the light came from one rustic street light in the village, just enough to give the tower some texture and depth
