Description
A detail of the coat of arms on the facade of the magnificent 16th century Casa de la Misericordia ("House of Mercy"), one of the most notable historic buildings in Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal. It is also known as the Casa das Varandas (House of Balconies) and overlooks the main square; it is attached to a church and monastery built by the same Misericordia brotherhood. The city was an important port in mediaeval times, when it was the departure point for many Portuguese explorers.

The clan motto for the Forsyth family is "Restorer of Ruins" so yes, I am interested in history and in Scotland we have a lot to restore James!

Excellent capture James! I am a sucker for any heraldic stuff. I used to teach History of Design and love any photos of architectural details like this.
James Brunker replied:
Thank you Alex! There's plenty of fascinating old coats of arms in Europe, a legacy of all the royal and elite families I guess. I find them fascinating subjects too
