Description
Monkey puzzle trees (Araucaria araucana) are a personal favourite and one of the world's most spectacular pines. They are native to the Chilean Lake District region and neighbouring Argentina, and are Chile's national tree (their local name is pehuen). Mature araucarias can reach 40m / 130ft in height. This image was taken in Huerquehue National Park near Pucon, the peak in the background is the Lanin volcano on the Chile / Argentina border.
