Description
Detail of the round window above the main entrance of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church (UMC) in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. The church was designed by Baltimore architect Thomas Dixon in a Norman-Gothic style and completed in 1872. The rose window is modelled after the one in the famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, close up you can really appreciate the intricate stone tracery. It is built of blocks of a unique metabasalt, a green-toned Maryland fieldstone, with brownstone ornamentation.
