Description
Lake Chiar Kota ("Black Lake" in Aymara) is base camp for climbing Condoriri (5648m / 18,530ft) and its surrounding peaks and one of my favourite spots in the Bolivian Andes. Condoriri (in the centre of the image) gets its name because it resembles a condor with wings outstretched (the main peak is the head). Far left is Pico Austria, far right Aguja Negra ("Black Needle"), just to the left of Aguja Negra in the background next to the glacier is Pequeno Alpamayo. There are lots of nice hikes and treks in the area as well if you don't fancy climbing the peaks (which are not that high by Andean standards but often quite technical).
