Description
A view across lakes, ridges and valleys on the edge of the altiplano to Mt Illimani (6439m / 21,125ft) after an overnight winter snowfall. This distinctive triple peaked mountain (it actually has 5 main peaks) is Bolivia's second highest mountain and part of the Cordillera Real range. The darker blue lake in the centre foreground is Laguna Laram Khota / Kota, the paler turquoise one to the left the Represa Chacaltaya reservoir. Fresh snow (during the winter dryer season the result of cold fronts) transforms the altiplano grasslands into a harsh yet strangely beautiful landscape; if the clouds clear the snow on the lower ground quickly disappears in the sun.
