Description
The new moon and Venus shine above an old steam train in the train graveyard in Uyuni in SW Bolivia. Uyuni was founded in 1890 as a railway junction and used to be a major railroad centre in its heyday. Those days have long since passed though trains still pass through. The steam trains started to be replaced by diesels in 1958, just outside the village dozens of steam engines coaches and wagons lie rusting in the old railway yards as a reminder of days gone by.
The glow lighting up most of the moon's surface is earthshine, reflected earthlight (sunlight reflected by the Earth) lighting up the Moon's night side.
