Description
One of two rustic churches in Lagunas village and the beautiful Parinacota volcano (6342m / 20,805ft) on the Bolivia / Chile border, the highest symmetrical cone volcano in the world. The magnificent volcanos that dominate these barren landscapes have long been worshipped as deities by the indigenous people; research has shown many of the churches were built on sites used for ritual for mountain worship to encourage them to convert to Catholicism.

James Brunker replied:
Thank you VIVA! It's a magical area, easy to see why the indigenous people worshipped the mountains so much.
