Description
Many parts of South America are famous for their high quality weavings and textiles, different regions often have distinctive designs and symbols. In pre Columbian times they were highly valued by the indigenous people (in some cultures more so than the precious metals) and were often used in religious ceremonies and burials. A thriving modern textile industry produces plenty of weavings for tourists, and export and local markets.
