Description
There are about 1,000 species of Anthuriums, the largest genus of flowering plants in the arum family or Araceae. They are native to the Americas and found from northern Mexico southwards to northern Argentina, and in parts of the Caribbean. The tiny flowers are packed in close together on the spadix, which is often elongated into a spike shape. The leaf-like bract beneath the spadix is called the spathe and is very variable in shape. Many species and cultivars are popular as garden and houseplants.
