Description
This attractive orchid is Epidendrum secundum, which comes in various colour forms and is one of the commoner orchids in the montane forests and cleared areas of the Andes.Mountains. It is one of over 300 species of orchid that have been recorded along the Inca Trail and in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary in Peru. Its local Quechua name "winay wayna" means "forever young" as it flowers pretty much all year round; an Inca site on the Inca Trail is named after it. This image was taken in the Yungas region of Bolivia.
