Description
A close up portrait of a man wearing traditional dress playing a wooden flute is called a tarka at a festival in Orinoca, Oruro Department, Bolivia. The tarqueada is one of many traditional dances of the Bolivian altiplano and is especially associated with the Oruro region. The tarka looks a bit like a recorder and is played in a similar way. There are many different types and sizes, some are wonderfully carved and decorated. They have ancient origins, similar instruments made of bone as well as wood have been found in burials and archaeological sites.
