Description
The vicuna (Vicugna vicugna) is the smallest and rarest of South America's wild camelids, and is found in the barren high altitude plains and puna steppes of the central Andes from Peru to northern Argentina. This one was happily grazing on the shore of the Salar de Surire, a beautiful and remote salt flat / lake in the far north of Chile that is a Ramsar wetland site and also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981.
