Description
A devotee prays and offers candles to a mosaic mural of the Lord of Miracles / Senor de los Milagros in the Nazarenas church in Lima, Peru. The Lord of Miracles is the patron saint of Lima (since 1715). The origins of this devotion go back to 1651 when an African slave painted a figure of Christ on the wall of a church; in 1687 an earthquake destroyed much of Lima but not the wall with the image. Celebrations take place in Lima throughout October, in other towns and cities in Peru and also abroad. Purple is the colour associated with the saint, tens of thousands devotees visit the church during the festival. Processions of the saint during this time are attended by hundreds of thousands of people and are among the largest religious parades in the world.

Wonderful capture and interesting take on the subject by focusing on the parson's hand rather than on the religions art. LF

Thank you Tatiana, I was stuck in a crowd (the church and parades can get packed) so had time to play with a few options
