Description
A view over the small town of Putre in the far north of Chile on a stormy afternoon. Putre lies in a fertile valley in the foothills of the Andes at an altitude of 3371m / 11,060 ft and is a provinical capital. The peaks are the 5860m / 19,225ft high Nevados de Putre / Taapaca volcano complex, a compound stratovolcano in the Cordillera Occidental range of the Andes Mountains. Its last eruption is thought to have been around 300BC.
