Description
Stormy skies and a rainbow over the Beagle Channel in the far south of South America. The Beagle Channel lies to the south of Big Island / Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego (which is divided between Argentina and Chile) and separates it from several smaller islands to the south (which belong to Chile). It is named after the ship HMS Beagle, whose first voyage surveying the coasts of the southern part of South America lasted from 1826 to 1830. The wild, rugged coastal scenery and fjords in the region are magnificent; the Channel is often used by shipping to avoid the wild southern ocean seas around Cape Horn.
