Description
A cable car on the Red Line / Linea Roja descends from El Alto to the city of La Paz in front of Mt Illimani (6439m / 21,125ft), Bolivia's second highest mountain. The Red Line officially opened in May 2014 and was the first of several cable car lines to be built in La Paz and El Alto. The network currently consists of 10 lines and is 30.6km / 19 miles long, the largest urban Cable-Propelled Transit (CPT) system in the world. It is also the highest - central La Paz is at an altitude of around 3650m / 11,970ft, El Alto 4,050m / 13,280ft.
